Baguio City recorded 1,413 millimeters of rainfall from August 1 to 9, 2026, already equivalent to nearly one and a half months of the city’s normal August rainfall, according to PAGASA.
Baguio City received 1,413 millimeters of rain in just nine days, making it the area with the highest recorded rainfall in the country from August 1 to 9, 2026, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Administrator Dr. Nathaniel Servando.
The amount is significantly higher than Baguio’s normal rainfall of 963 millimeters for the entire month of August. This means the city received about 147% of its normal August rainfall in only nine days.
“Halos isa’t kalahating buwan na ulan ang binuhos sa siyam na araw lamang,” Servando said during a Malacañang press briefing on Monday, August 10.
During the briefing, Servando identified Baguio City as the area that recorded the highest rainfall during the period.
“Ang lugar na nakararanas ng pinakamataas na rainfall, ito po ‘yung Baguio City,” Servando said.
From August 1 to 9, the city accumulated 1,413 mm of rain, compared with its normal August rainfall of 963 mm.
The extraordinary amount puts into perspective the prolonged and intense rains experienced in Baguio over the past several days.
During this period, Baguio and Benguet were placed under Yellow, Orange, and Red Rainfall Warnings at different times as heavy rains continued over the area.
A Yellow Rainfall Warning indicates that flooding and landslides are possible in susceptible areas, while an Orange Warning means these hazards are threatening. A Red Rainfall Warning, the highest level, indicates that serious flooding and landslides are expected in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas.
The repeated escalation of rainfall warnings over the past few days reflected the persistence and intensity of the rains that contributed to Baguio’s unusually high rainfall total.
Baguio was not the only area to receive close to or more than an entire month’s rainfall in just nine days.
The PAGASA station in Iba, Zambales recorded 957 mm of rain from August 1 to 9, already exceeding its normal August rainfall of 929 mm, or about 103% of its usual rainfall for the whole month.
PAGASA also reported that Pangasinan recorded rainfall approaching the equivalent of a normal month’s total during the same period.
The heavy rains experienced over Northern and Central Luzon during the first days of August were associated with tropical cyclones and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.
The prolonged rainfall has resulted in flooding, landslides, road closures and other weather-related disruptions in Baguio and nearby areas over the past several days.
Residents, particularly those living in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas, are advised to continue monitoring official advisories from PAGASA and local authorities even as weather conditions improve.
