Tropical Depression Pilandok maintained its strength while moving slowly northwestward over the sea east of Extreme Northern Luzon, according to PAGASA’s Tropical Cyclone Bulletin issued at 5:00 PM today, August 30, 2026.
Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat continues to bring heavy rains over Northern Luzon, with Benguet, Ilocos Sur, and La Union placed under an Orange Rainfall Warning as of 5:00 PM.
As of 4:00 PM, the center of Tropical Depression Pilandok was estimated at 1,180 km east of Extreme Northern Luzon.
It has maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 55 km/h, and a central pressure of 1002 hPa.
Pilandok is moving northwestward slowly, with strong winds extending outward up to 420 km from the center.
No Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal is currently hoisted.
PAGASA forecasts Pilandok to move west northwestward on Monday, August 31, before turning generally northwestward for the remainder of the forecast period.
The tropical cyclone remains less likely to make landfall over the Philippines and is expected to stay far from the Philippine landmass.
Pilandok is also expected to be short-lived and is forecast to remain a tropical depression before weakening into a remnant low over the Philippine Sea, south of the southern islands of Japan, on Tuesday, September 1.
While Pilandok remains far from the country, the more immediate weather threat over Northern Luzon comes from the Southwest Monsoon.
As of the 5:00 PM Heavy Rainfall Warning, the following warning levels are in effect:
Associated hazard: Serious flooding and landslides in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas.
Associated hazard: Flooding and landslides are threatening in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas.
Associated hazard: Possible flooding and landslides in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas.
Light to moderate, and at times heavy rains, are also being experienced over portions of Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Quirino, Ifugao and Mountain Province, as well as Apayao, Kalinga, Isabela, Cagayan and Batanes.
These conditions may persist within the next two to three hours based on the 5:00 PM warning.
Residents along mountain slopes are advised to take precautions against possible landslides, mudslides, rockslides and flash floods.
The Southwest Monsoon will also bring strong to gale-force gusts, especially in exposed coastal and upland areas.

Rough seas are also forecast over several coastal waters.
Waves may reach up to 4 meters along the western seaboard of the Babuyan Islands.
Waves of up to 3.5 meters are forecast over the seaboards of Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and Zambales, the northern seaboard of the Babuyan Islands, and the western seaboards of Pangasinan and Bataan.
Waves of up to 3 meters are expected over the seaboard of Lubang Islands and the western seaboards of northern La Union, Cavite, Batangas, northern Occidental Mindoro and the Kalayaan Islands.
PAGASA advises mariners of small seacrafts, including all types of motorbancas, not to venture out to sea under these conditions, especially those who are inexperienced or operating ill-equipped vessels.
Although Pilandok itself is forecast to remain far from the Philippine landmass, the Southwest Monsoon continues to bring hazardous weather over parts of Luzon.
Residents are advised to closely monitor succeeding Heavy Rainfall Warnings, rainfall advisories and other severe weather information from PAGASA, particularly in areas that have already experienced prolonged rainfall.
The next Tropical Cyclone Bulletin for #PilandokPH will be issued at 11:00 PM, while the next Northern Luzon Heavy Rainfall Warning is expected at 8:00 PM today.
