Panagbenga 2021 Limited Events Approved by City Mayor

Will there be a Panagbenga 2021 celebration? Will the Grand Float and Street Parade push through? Here’s an update about the event!

Conceptualized in 1995 as a community-led and government-supported event, the Panagbenga Festival, an annual flower festival held every February in Baguio City, grew to be one of the major tourist attractions in our country.

However, last year, 2020, the conduct of the 25th Panagbenga was cancelled due to the global pandemic brought about by COVID-19.

But for this year, 2021, as part of the city’s efforts to gradually and safely allow the opening of the local tourism industry, the residents and visitors will be given a chance to witness some of the traditional events that will be lined up for the upcoming Panagbenga 2021.

The Panagbenga 2021

To pave the way for the local tourism industry, on Sunday, January 3, 2021, the Public Information Office of the City of Baguio announced that Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong has already approved in principle the conduct of limited events of the Panagbenga.

The festival will start in February until the first week of March.

Grand Float Parade and Grand Street Parade

However, two of the major attractions of the flower festival, the much anticipated Grand Float Parade and Grand Street Parade, will not yet be allowed to prevent the spread of the virus in the city.

Initial Panagbenga 2021 Activities Approved

Included in the initial activities of the Panagbenga festival that had been approved are the landscaping competition among the schools and the barangays and other similar activities that will not draw huge crowds.

To ensure that incidents that might cause the transmission of the virus among the spectators will not occur, the Public Information Office of the City of Baguio made mention that the adherence to the health and safety protocols among the organizers and the public had been reiterated.
