No Grand Adivay and Benguet Foundation Day Celebration this Year due to the Pandemic

This year’s celebration of the Adivay Festival and the annual foundation anniversary of the Province of Benguet will be toned down by the provincial government of Benguet due to the ongoing pandemic. This has been reported by the Philippine Information Agency on Friday, September 11, 2020.

The Adivay Festival is a month-long festivities culminating with the grand celebration participated by all the municipalities of the province, but for November this year, Benguet Governor Melchor Diclas said that a simple celebration for Adivay Festival and the 120th Benguet Foundation Day will be conducted.

Despite the pandemic, the celebration will be thanksgiving in remembrance of the former leaders of the province who already passed on.

Moreover, the governor said that the traditional “owik” rituals will still be performed, however, there will be a lesser number of animals to be offered. With simple activities, including the rituals, health protocols are to be observed.

Diclas also stated that suspending many of the events would lessen the further spread of the virus in the province.
