The Cordillera Administrative Region, is basking in the glory of its nine universities that have garnered global recognition for their innovative programs and initiatives. The 2023 World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) has honored these institutions for their exceptional performance, solidifying their positions as leading innovators on the world stage.

The results of the rankings were officially announced on May 18, 2023 on WURI’s official website.

Notably, Baguio City, also known as the “Education Capital of the North,” is home to three of these esteemed universities. The city’s thriving academic environment and commitment to excellence have attracted students from all over the country. Additionally, La Trinidad, another municipality in the Cordillera Administrative Region, boasts two universities that have made a mark in the global rankings. The rigorous selection process involves a comprehensive evaluation conducted by university presidents and designated evaluation teams. The blind review process ensures fairness and objectivity in assessing the applications. Evaluation scores are then submitted to the WURI Evaluation Board, comprising representatives from university leagues and higher education-related media. Based on their review, the global top 100 rankings are determined. The final entries undergo a meticulous verification process by the WURI Evaluation Board before the official results are published.

The evaluation criteria encompass six categories: Industrial Application, Entrepreneurial Spirit, Ethical Value, Student Mobility and Openness, Crisis Management, and Fourth Industrial Revolution. Each category is evaluated based on innovativeness, implementability, and impact. Evaluators carefully assess the programs’ innovation, feasibility, and the breadth and depth of their impact.
