LPA at Southeast of Zamboanga City Less Likely to develop into a Tropical Depression, Says PAGASA

UPDATE June 3, 2026 11:20 AM:

At 10:00 AM today (Monday), January 18, 2021, the Low Pressure Area (LPA) was estimated at 90 km Southeast of Zamboanga City embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

This update was issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) at 11:00 AM today, through their latest Weather Advisory.

Hazards Affecting Land Areas

Moderate to Heavy Rains

In the next 24 hours, the combined effects of the LPA, ITCZ and the Tail-End of a Frontal System (Shear Line) will bring moderate to heavy rains over the following areas:

• Caraga
• Davao Region
• SOCCSKSARGEN
• Eastern Visayas

Light to Moderate Rains

Furthermore, PAGASA also stated that light to moderate with at times heavy rains may prevail over the following areas:

• Quezon
• Palawan
• Bicol Region
• The rest of Visayas and Mindanao

Scattered Rains

The surge of the Northeast Monsoon will also bring scattered rains over the following areas:

• Cagayan
• Eastern Isabela

Flooding, Including Flashfloods

PAGASA also warned those who are in areas that are to experience heavy rains about possible flooding, flashfloods, and rain-induced landslides.

“Flooding, including flashfloods, and rain-induced landslides may occur during heavy or prolonged periods of rainfall, especially in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards or in localities that received significant amount rainfall during the past couple of days or weeks,” stated the administration.

LPA Less Likely to Develop into TD

Although PAGASA has reported some hazards that are affecting land areas, the administration said that, “This weather disturbance is less likely to develop into a Tropical Depression in the next 48 hours.”

The next weather advisory will be issued by PAGASA at 11:00 AM tomorrow (Tuesday), January 19, 2021, unless an intermediate advisory is released.
