A Low Pressure Area remains under monitoring east of Northern Luzon while the Southwest Monsoon continues to bring monsoon rains over Benguet and several parts of Luzon, with PAGASA warning of possible flash floods and landslides.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) continues to monitor a Low Pressure Area inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
As of 3:00 PM on Monday, August 17, 2026, the LPA was estimated at 1,160 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, based on all available data. It was located near 18.2°N, 132.7°E.
Earlier, at 2:00 PM, PAGASA assessed the LPA as having a “MEDIUM” potential of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
The disturbance remains a Low Pressure Area and has not yet developed into a tropical cyclone.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat is affecting Luzon and Visayas and remains responsible for the significant rainfall currently affecting several areas.
PAGASA forecasts monsoon rains over:
The weather bureau warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to heavy to intense rains in these areas.
Metro Manila, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Oriental Mindoro, and Antique may experience occasional rains, also due to the Southwest Monsoon.
Possible flash floods and landslides may occur in these areas due to moderate to heavy rainfall.
The Negros Island Region, the rest of Luzon, and the rest of Western Visayas may have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms, with moderate to at times heavy rains possible.
In Weather Advisory No. 63, issued at 11:00 AM Monday, PAGASA forecast 100 to 200 millimeters of rainfall over Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan from August 17 until noon of Tuesday, August 18.
Another 100 to 200 millimeters is forecast over Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro from Tuesday noon until Wednesday noon, August 19.
By Wednesday noon to Thursday noon, August 20, Benguet is still forecast to receive 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall, while Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro may receive 100 to 200 millimeters.
PAGASA cautioned that forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas.
The weather bureau also warned that impacts in some locations may be worsened by significant rainfall that has already fallen in previous days.
This is particularly important in areas susceptible to landslides, flash floods, and other rain-induced hazards.
Residents are advised to continue monitoring Heavy Rainfall Warnings and other advisories issued by PAGASA and its Regional Services Divisions.
Moderate to strong southwesterly winds are also forecast over the northern and western sections of Luzon, where coastal waters may be moderate to rough with waves ranging from 1.5 to 2.8 meters.
Similar sea conditions are expected over the eastern section of Mindanao.
While the LPA continues to be monitored for possible tropical cyclone development, the current monsoon rains affecting Benguet and several other parts of Luzon are attributed by PAGASA to the Southwest Monsoon.
Residents should continue monitoring succeeding PAGASA updates as both the position and development potential of the LPA, as well as the rainfall outlook from the Habagat, may change.
