By Celebrating the 77th year of the End of World War II
September is one of the most important months for the City of Pines as it is the time Baguio Day is celebrated. Apart from the yearly celebration of Baguio Day every September 1, let us also remember one of the important events in Philippine history that took place here in Baguio City on September 3, 1945.
What happened on September 3, 1945?
On September 3, 1945, Japanese Imperial Army General Tomoyuki Yamashita signed their documents of surrender in Baguio City.
This event happened in the American Commissioners Residence at Camp John Hay, Baguio City.
With this, World War II officially ended, signifying victory for the country. Today marks the 77th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Republic Act 11216
To celebrate Victory Day and to honor the Filipino soldiers who courageously fought during the Japanese occupation and in commemoration of the surrender of the Japanese Military Forces led by General Yamashita in Baguio City, September 3 was declared as a Special Working Public Holiday in the Philippines under Republic Act 11216.
In addition, Republic Act 11216 was signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte on February 14, 2019.
