Bukidnon Farmer Hailed as Hero for Daring Philippine Eagle Rescue, Senate Resolution Filed

MANILA, Philippines — A 21-year-old farmer from Bukidnon is being lauded as a national hero after his quick thinking saved a critically endangered Philippine Eagle, leading to a resolution filed in the Senate seeking official recognition for his act.

Marvin Linoy, a resident of Barangay Dalwangan, Malaybalay, was gathering fruits in a local forest on July 3 when he stumbled upon a distressing scene: a group of monkeys aggressively attacking an injured raptor. Without hesitation, Linoy sprang into action. He skillfully imitated a dog’s bark, effectively startling and scattering the attacking monkeys.

Upon reaching the eagle, Linoy found it injured and caked in mud. To alleviate its distress, he carefully covered the bird’s eyes with fern leaves and then gently wrapped it in his jacket, preventing it from trembling further. His compassionate and resourceful approach ensured the eagle’s immediate safety.

Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri formally filed Senate Resolution 519, emphasizing Linoy’s exceptional bravery and commitment to protecting the nation’s precious wildlife. Zubiri highlighted that Linoy’s actions were crucial in safeguarding one of the Philippines’ rarest and most iconic species, an act deserving of national commendation.
