Baguio Talents Showcased During The Miss Universe Visit

Baguio City is known as the City of Pines and a Character City, but it looks like Baguio will have to add another moniker and that is the City of Talents. From the City of Pines emerged several talents not only in the field of sports but also in the field of arts. The latter was again showcased during the visit of the Miss Universe candidates in Baguio City.

The Panagbenga Talents

During the visit of the Miss Universe candidates, a mini-Panagbenga float parade was organized and some of Baguio’s finest marching bands, drum and lyre and street dancers were given the opportunity to showcase their talents. Their performance during the parade was as if they are actually competing for that coveted title at the street dancing competition during the Panagbenga Festival. You can really see and feel the enthusiasm in their performance as they paraded from the DILG area to the Baguio Country Club.

Showcase of Talents in Art and Culture

Local Baguio artist, Jordan Mang-osan, was also given the opportunity to showcase to the candidates of the Miss Universe his talent on solar pyrography or the art of decorating leather or wood by burning a design using the heat of the sun. He does this incredible art with a magnifying glass and a lot of sunshine.

The Hapiyoh Mi, a cultural dance group, showed to the Miss Universe candidates the different Cordillera dances. The ladies of Miss Universe also joined in and danced their heart out to the traditional sounds of the gongs.

A Night of Dancing

During the Gala Dinner dubbed as “A Culinary Sojourn” the Miss Universe candidates were wowed by the dancing prowess of the Baguio Metamorphosis, Aloha Girls, and the Ballet Baguio. The performance by the Baguio Metamorphosis showed why they were one of the top contenders for the title of Pilipinas Got Talent. The dancing skills of the Aloha Girls, on the other hand, made the audience watch in amazement. While Ballet Baguio’s ballet dance skills are simply flawless and graceful and deserving of their previous accomplishments as Baguio’s First and only finalist at the CCP National Ballet competition.

Indeed, the visit of the Miss Universe Candidates did not only shower the City of Pines with beauty but it also brought to our attention and reminded us that Baguio City is also brimming with talents.
