Baguio Mayor Requires Grocery, Department Stores to Subject Employees to COVID-19 Test

Earlier, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong has required banks to subject their personnel to Reverse Transcriptase- Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR).

This is since it has been found out by the city, through risk-based expanded testing, that a number of them were infected. According to Mayor Magalong, the banks have been complying, thus resulting in the discovery of more infections.

After banks, Mayor Magalong also orders mandatory COVID-19 tests for grocery and department store workers in the City of Baguio.

Mandatory COVID-19 Tests for Grocery, Department Store Workers

The move is due to the reported clustering of cases in one of the grocery stores in the city. All employees of the said grocery store were tested last August 8, 2020. As a result of analytics, among the sixty-four (64) workers, fourteen (14) have tested positive of COVID-19.

Thus, after requiring banks to test their employees, the same call is to be issued to grocery and department stores within Baguio City.

“Just like what we did with the banks, we will send a letter to all supermarkets and grocery stores requiring management to subject all employees to swab tests at their expense.”

Since the city does not have enough resources to test all these workers, as reported by the Public Information Office – City of Baguio, it will be the companies that will shoulder the costs.

Health and Safety Protocols to be Enhanced

Other than requiring testing, the city had also engaged the banks and security agencies in enhancing health and safety protocols, and the same will be done to department and grocery stores.
