Baguio City Honors its Newest Centenarian

Mrs. Ignacia P. Damasco from East Modernsite Barangay is honored by the City Council as the newest centenarian in Baguio City during last Monday’s, September 28, 2020, regular session. Mrs. Damasco celebrated her 100th birthday last July 29, 2020.

Mrs. Damasco was born and reared in Sta. Ana, Agoo, La Union. She came to Baguio City together with her husband and bought a property in East Modernsite. However, her husband died due to an illness. The couple was not blessed with a child.

The city’s newest centenarian is currently residing at her own house with her caregiver, who is her distant relative.

According to the Public Information Office of the City of Baguio, Mrs. Damasco no longer remembers some special events in her life due to old age but she is still physically strong and can take care of herself.

“I am a workaholic even at this time. I still do gardening in my backyard as part of my daily routine and exercise,” Mrs. Damasco excitedly claimed, according to the council.

And when asked what was her secret to long life, she said, “I eat anything, such as meat, with lots of vegetables, fruits and a regular intake of milk and lots of water every day.”

Mrs. Damasco has two sisters close to her age. One is already 103 years old who resides in Manila; and the other one is 94 years old who resides in South Central Aurora Hill.
