A Teacher Urged his Class to Register for the 2022 Elections and “…THEY ARE ALL REGISTERED!”

Voter Registration, as defined by the Comission on Elections (Comelec), is a requirement for any qualified Filipino citizen who wishes to vote in any Philippine election. And just recently, an entire Grade 12 class has registered to vote for the upcoming elections; all thanks to their teacher Marco Paolo Lovendino who urged them to take action.

According to Mr. Lovendino, they were then discussing the principles of democracy in their HUMSS class, but instead of giving his students a test, he has decided to ask them to register as voters for the 2022 elections instead.

Pwede kong ipamemorize sa kanila lahat ng facts about democracy. Pero mas magiging meaningful yung learning kung magagamit nila sa reality. (I can ask them to memorize all the facts about democracy but their learning would be more meaningful if they can apply it in reality.)”

– Marco Paolo Lovendino

“And that’s the true essence of democracy,” Mr. Lovendino added.

Mr. Lovendino announced on a Facebook post published on Monday, December 7, 2020 that they, his students, are all registered. “Our country deserves better. Sa 2022, TAYO NAMAN!” he stated.

These students might be young, but every one of us can already look up to them and follow their lead. If you still have not registered for the upcoming 2022 elections, now is the best time for you to do so. Let’s all practice our democracy like they did.

Planning to register soon? There is an online voters’ application form available at Comelec’s iRehistro which you might want to check out.
