Mayor Magalong to Brgy. Captains: Prepare, Battle Against the Virus could Run Longer

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, on a meeting held on October 14, 2020, told the barangay captains that the Coronavirus vaccine is still a long way. Based on the World Health Organization vaccine allocation plan for second and third world countries, the country stands to receive vaccine allocation in the latter part of 2021.

“It’s more than a year more before we can go back to normal so we have to condition our minds that we are in for a long-term and enduring battle.”

– Mayor Benjamin Magalong

Since the battle against the virus could run for a while longer, Mayor Magalong asked the barangay captains in the city to prepare. According to the mayor, as seen in the current statistics, the fight against the virus in the city has shifted to the households. Thus, families and neighborhoods should now be the target of the city’s strategies.

Barangay officials were asked to take the lead in implementing the new programs in their areas of jurisdiction which will be implemented in coordination with the city government offices; the Special Services Division and the City Health Services Offices included.

Based on the report published by the Public Information Office of the City of Baguio earlier this afternoon of Monday, October 19, 2020, the said new programs include the following:

  • Information education communication (IEC) campaign
  • Conduct of dialogues and COVID-19 information dissemination
    • Barangay areas which have the potential to become hotspot
  • Incentivization of barangays that are complying with the health measures
