6 Feel-good Stories from Benguet that will restore your faith in humanity

The emergence of the deadly Coronavirus Disease or COVID-19 has truly struck fear, pain, and tragedies to many people all over the globe. But despite what’s happening, we still hear about selfless acts of people who try to lend a hand to those in need amidst the crisis we’re facing. Here are some rays of hope for the past days where we can draw strength and inspiration from to continue to this fight until we finally beat COVID-19.

Baguio City  Muay Thai Fighter donates 1-Month Athlete Allowance 

According to a Facebook post by the Muaythai Association of the Philippines (MAP) last Friday, Islay Erika Bomogao, a 19-year-old Muay Thai National athlete, has donated her one-month athlete allowance to the Philippine Sports Commission in order to take part in the relief efforts being facilitated by her father. 

The young athlete’s father, Baguio City Councilor Benny O. Bomogao has also done the same – donating his one-month salary for the benefit of the single parents of Dontogan, Green Valley.

Simple Act of Kindness at Guisad, Baguio City

On a viral Facebook post last April 18, 2020, the good deed of the kind-hearted woman at Guisad, Baguio City has been recognized. According to the post, three (3) policemen were assigned to monitor the entry and exit of people in Badihoy, Guisad, Baguio City. As lunchtime came, a woman was seen calling the attention of the frontliners and inviting them to take a rest for a while and eat.

Aside from the steps being taken by the city government, it’s a good practice to appreciate and recognize simple acts of kindness of those who are willing to help amid such trying times because an act of simple kindness can truly make a difference.

Generous farmer donates two tons of Cabbage to be distributed in La Trinidad

On a post on Facebook today, Mayor Romeo Salda thanked a generous La Trinidad farmer, Mr. Marvin Chagyo, for donating two (2) tons of red cabbage which will be distributed to the different barangays within the municipality.

Free Vegetables Distributed in La Trinidad

To help farmers who are having a problem selling their produce, the municipal government of La Trinidad started buying vegetables from them to be distributed for free to residents of the different barangays in the municipality. 

Farmers and traders at La Trinidad Trading Post, municipal officials, and the Municipal Agriculture Office looked and gathered vegetables that they can give to the residents as relief.

Batman and Superman of Baguio City Give Relief Goods to Street Dwellers

Batman and Superman proved to be real-life heroes by helping those who are in need in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Two men who are wearing Batman and Superman costumes were seen distributing relief goods to people on the streets here in Baguio City. According to a news by GMA News Online, the brothers-in-law Jefferson Delos Santos and Rash Garcia were the heroes behind the appearance of the famous DC characters in the city streets.

City receives help from Private Individuals/Companies/Organizations

Donation from Venus Parkview Hotel

Last Friday, April 17, 2020, Venus Parkview Hotel was recognized for donating One Hundred Thousand Pesos (100,000.00PHP) to support the city in its fight against COVID-19.

Donations from Texas Instruments

Just last Saturday, the city government received donations from Texas Instruments, based on a Facebook post by the Public Information Office – City of Baguio.

These donations include the following:

  • Two Hundred Fifty (250) pieces of safety goggles
  • Two Hundred Twenty Five (225) pieces of Face Shields
  • Two Thousand Five Hundred (2,500) pieces of Surgical Masks
  • Two Hundred Fifty (250) pieces of N95 Masks
  • One Thousand Two Hundred and Fifty (1,250) pairs of disposable medical gloves.

Donations from the Professional Criminologists Association of the Philippines – Cordillera Chapter

Last week, the Professional Criminologists Association of the Philippines – Cordillera Chapter has also given donations such as cash, cavans of rice, and PPEs to the city of Baguio.

Donation from BSU Community Multipurpose Cooperative

Baguio City has also received help from the Benguet State University (BSU) Community Multipurpose Cooperative which has donated a Php 100,000.00  cheque.

Donations from private individuals

The city government also thanked Mr. Larry and Mrs. Rosette Smith for donating Four Hundred Dollars ($400.00) on April, 16, 2020. Another donor, Mr. John Bigornia, has donated four hundred water bottles.
