Super Typhoon Uwan Maintains Strength; Most of CAR Under Signal No. 3

Super TyphoonUwan (Fung-wong) maintains its strength as it lashes the Bicol Region, Aurora, and nearby provinces. The storm continues to bring life-threatening winds, heavy rainfall, and coastal flooding across large portions of Luzon. Most provinces in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) remain under Signal No. 3, while areas in Bicol and Aurora are now under Signal No. 5.

Current Status

• Location of Eye/Center (10:00 AM): Over the coastal waters of Pandan, Catanduanes (14.3°N, 124.4°E)
• Movement: West northwestward at 30 km/h
• Maximum Sustained Winds: 185 km/h near the center
• Gustiness: Up to 230 km/h
• Extent of Winds: Strong to typhoon-force winds extend outwards up to 800 km from the center

Forecast Track and Intensity

Uwan is expected to move west northwestward over the next 24 hours, passing close to Calaguas and Polillo Islands before making landfall over Aurora tonight or early Monday. After crossing Northern Luzon, it will exit toward Lingayen Gulf by Monday morning and gradually weaken as it turns northward toward Taiwan midweek.

Storm surges exceeding 3.0 meters are expected in Cagayan, Isabela, Ilocos, La Union, Pangasinan, Aurora, Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, Batangas, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and nearby coastal areas.

Hazards Affecting Coastal Waters

A Gale Warning is in effect over most seaboards of Luzon and the eastern Visayas and Mindanao. Seas will range from very rough to very high (up to 14.0 meters) along the eastern seaboards of Isabela, Aurora, Catanduanes, and Camarines provinces.

Advisory

• Residents in areas under Signals 3 to 5 should stay indoors and avoid coastal and flood-prone zones.
• Evacuations in low-lying and coastal communities are strongly advised.
• Mariners should not venture to sea as conditions are dangerous across most Philippine waters.
