PH Ranks 4th Most Affected by Extreme Weather
According to Germanwatch’s Global Climate Risk Index 2021 report which tackles the counties that suffer most from extreme weather events from 2000 to 2019, the Philippines was ranked fourth.
A total of 317 events from 2000-2019 were recorded in the Philippines and it is the highest among the countries included in the Top 10.
Germanwatch’s Global Climate Risk Index (CRI) analyses quantified impacts of extreme weather events for both fatalities and economic losses that occurred.
Top 10 Countries Most Affected
These are the countries that were most affected from 2000 to 2019:
- Puerto Rico
- Myanmar
- Haiti
- Philippines
- Mozambique
- The Bahamas
- Bangladesh
- Pakistan
- Thailand
- Nepal

Also, in the Global Climate Risk Index 2021, here are the countries that were most affected in 2019:
- Mozambique
- Zimbabwe
- The Bahamas
- Japan
- Malawi
- Islamic Republic of Afghanistan
- India
- South Sudan
- Niger
- Bolivia

Furthermore, in this year’s edition, less developed countries were generally more affected than industrialized countries.
In addition, United States of America data was not included in the CRI 2021.
