PAGASA Issues Heavy Rain, Flood, and Landslide Alert for Benguet, Northern Luzon

Baguio City residents and visitors are urged to prepare for a period of significant rainfall as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued Weather Advisory No. 9, detailing the combined effects of a Low Pressure Area (LPA) and the Southwest Monsoon.

Issued at 11:00 PM on August 3, 2026, the advisory forecasts considerable precipitation across Benguet and several neighboring provinces from today, August 4, until August 6, 2026. Authorities emphasize the heightened risk of flooding and landslides, especially in vulnerable areas.

Rainfall Outlook for Benguet and Nearby Regions:

Tonight to Tuesday evening (August 4):

• Benguet, along with La Union, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Zambales, and Bataan, is expected to experience heavy rainfall ranging from 100 to 200 mm due to the LPA. This level of rainfall significantly increases the likelihood of numerous flooding events, particularly in urbanized, low-lying areas, or those near rivers. Landslides are also likely in areas moderately to highly susceptible to them.
• Provinces such as Ilocos Sur, Ifugao, Mountain Province, and Nueva Vizcaya are projected to receive 50 to 100 mm of rain, which could lead to localized flooding and possible landslides in highly susceptible areas.

Tuesday evening to Wednesday evening (August 5):

• Benguet, La Union, and Pangasinan remain under the 100-200 mm rainfall forecast from the LPA, indicating continued risk of widespread flooding and landslides.
• Areas including Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, and Occidental Mindoro are also anticipated to receive 100-200 mm of rain, this time primarily from the Southwest Monsoon.
• Ilocos Sur and Nueva Vizcaya are expected to get 50-100 mm of rain.

Wednesday evening to Thursday evening (August 6):

• The Southwest Monsoon is forecasted to bring 50-100 mm of rain to Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Antique. Localized flooding and landslides remain a possibility.

PAGASA highlights that rainfall amounts may be even higher in mountainous and elevated areas, a crucial consideration for Baguio City and the rest of Benguet. Furthermore, the impact in some localities could be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall.

Disaster risk reduction and management offices across the affected regions are advised to take all necessary measures to protect lives and property. The public is urged to remain vigilant, monitor local weather updates from PAGASA Regional Services Divisions, and be prepared for potential hazards.
