Tropical Depression Luis continued moving northwestward over the Philippine Sea east of Aurora, PAGASA said late Sunday afternoon, August 2, 2026. Signal No. 1 remains raised over parts of Luzon, while the Southwest Monsoon may affect most of Luzon and Visayas beginning Monday.
According to PAGASA’s Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 4 issued at 5:00 PM, the center of Tropical Depression Luis was estimated at 285 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora as of 4:00 PM.
Luis maintained maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 70 kilometers per hour, and a central pressure of 1002 hectopascals.
It was moving northwestward at 15 kilometers per hour.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remains raised over:
– Polillo Islands
– Camarines Norte
– Northern portion of Camarines Sur
– Northern portion of Catanduanes
Areas under Signal No. 1 may experience strong winds that may bring minimal to minor impacts.
PAGASA said the possibility of raising Signal No. 2 is not ruled out.
Baguio City and Benguet are not under any tropical cyclone wind signal based on the 5:00 PM bulletin.
PAGASA said the Southwest Monsoon and the outer circulation of Luis may bring strong to gale-force gusts over several areas, especially in coastal and upland locations exposed to winds.
These conditions may affect Marinduque, Mindoro Provinces, Romblon, Masbate, Sorsogon, parts of Visayas, Camiguin, and Dinagat Islands today, August 2.
By Monday and Tuesday, August 3 and 4, these conditions may affect most of Luzon and Visayas, as well as parts of Mindanao.
Residents in Baguio City, Benguet, and nearby mountain areas are advised to continue monitoring local weather advisories, especially as the Southwest Monsoon may affect most of Luzon beginning Monday.
PAGASA advised the public to refer to Weather Advisory No. 4 issued at 5:00 PM for the heavy rainfall outlook due to Tropical Depression Luis and the Southwest Monsoon.
Residents in areas prone to flooding, landslides, mudslides, rockslides, and flash floods should monitor rainfall advisories and follow instructions from local authorities.
Moderate to rough seas may affect some coastal waters within the next 24 hours.
Waves may reach up to 2.5 meters over the eastern seaboard of Davao Oriental.
Waves of up to 2.0 meters may also affect the seaboards of Isabela, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Occidental; the eastern seaboards of Cagayan, Catanduanes, and Northern Samar; and the northern seaboards of Aurora, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes.
Motorbancas and similarly sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures and avoid sailing if possible.
Luis is forecast to continue moving northwestward in the next 12 hours before turning east northeastward for the rest of the forecast period.
PAGASA said the center of Luis is expected to remain over the Philippine Sea. However, a westward shift in the forecast track may result in landfall or a close approach to Northern or Central Luzon.
Luis may intensify into a tropical storm within the next 24 hours while moving east of Central Luzon. It is expected to remain a tropical storm only for a short period before weakening as it turns east northeastward.
PAGASA said Luis may become a remnant low by Wednesday, August 5, before being absorbed into the circulation of Typhoon Dolphin.
The next tropical cyclone bulletin will be issued at 11:00 PM today.
