Tropical Depression Neneng maintained its strength as it continued moving northwestward over the sea east of southern Taiwan, according to PAGASA’s Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 4 issued at 11:00 AM today, August 19, 2026.
As of 10:00 AM, the center of Neneng was estimated at 530 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, at 22.6°N, 126.6°E.
Neneng has maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 70 km/h, and a central pressure of 1002 hPa. It is moving northwestward at 30 km/h, with strong winds extending outward up to 380 kilometers from its center.
While Neneng remains far from the Philippine landmass, PAGASA warned that the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat will continue to bring strong to gale-force gusts to a large portion of the country.
From today until Thursday, August 20, strong to gale-force gusts are expected over:
– Most of Luzon
– Most of Visayas
– Zamboanga Peninsula
– Northern Mindanao
– Davao Region
By Friday, August 21, these conditions may continue over most of Luzon, Panay Island, Negros Occidental, Northern Samar, and Davao Oriental.
PAGASA referred the public to Weather Advisory No. 71, issued at 11:00 AM today, for the heavy rainfall outlook associated with the Southwest Monsoon.
Rough sea conditions are also forecast over several coastal waters during the next 24 hours.
Waves of up to 3.5 meters may affect the seaboards of Ilocos Norte, Zambales, and Lubang Islands, as well as the western seaboards of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Pangasinan, Bataan, and Kalayaan Islands.
Waves of up to 3 meters are possible along the seaboards of Ilocos Sur and La Union, the remaining seaboards of Batanes and Pangasinan, and portions of the coastal waters of Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Calamian Islands, Bataan, and Kalayaan Islands.
PAGASA advised mariners of motorbancas and similarly sized vessels to take precautionary measures and, if possible, avoid navigating under these conditions.
Neneng is forecast to move generally west-northwestward and may pass close to or make landfall along the northern coast of Taiwan by Thursday afternoon or evening, August 20.
According to PAGASA, the center of Neneng is expected to remain over the Philippine Sea throughout the forecast period.
The tropical cyclone is forecast to remain a tropical depression during the next 36 hours before weakening into a remnant low over or near Taiwan on Friday morning. PAGASA, however, noted that earlier weakening remains possible.
The public is advised to continue monitoring official PAGASA bulletins, rainfall warnings, and advisories issued by their respective PAGASA Regional Services Divisions.
The next Tropical Cyclone Bulletin on Neneng is scheduled to be issued at 5:00 PM today, August 19.
