The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, shared a stunning, out-of-this-world photo of Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka, Japan, through an Instagram post.
According to NASA, the image which shows nighttime lights over Japan was photographed by NASA astronaut Randy Bresnik from the International Space Station on November 6, 2017.
Astronauts have already shot millions of photographs in the past twenty (20) years and NASA explained that it is not just a hobby. “It is an important scientific job, and one they need to be trained to do,” stated the space administration.
“For example, researchers have used nighttime imagery of lights to better understand human activity. The images can reveal population changes, urban development, energy use, economic activities, and changes in types of lighting,” NASA added.
Here is the stunning photo featuring the nighttime lights over Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka, Japan as captured by Bresnik. “The lights are concentrated around three of the country’s major cities,” NASA described. Tokyo was the one located at the top, Nagoya was at the middle, while Osaka was at the bottom.
