Kennon Road Remains Temporarily Closed

The present status of Kennon Road has been discussed and deliberated by the Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (Cordillera RDRRMC) through the Inter-Agency Task Group (IATG) Kennon on a coordination meeting held on Thursday, August 13, 2020.

Based on the report published by the Civil Defense Cordillera, the Provincial Government of Benguet and Municipal Government of Tuba have requested to accommodate trucks that weigh over five (5) tons, and the discussion was said to be in connection with the request.

Agreements During the Meeting

As reported by the Civil Defense Cordillera, the following was agreed by the IATG Kennon during the coordination meeting:

  • Kennon Road will continue to be temporarily closed until further notice effective, 13 August 2020, 11:00 AM except for local residents.
  • Trucks/vehicles exceeding the five (5) tons (gross tonnage) limit are absolutely prohibited to pass through Kennon Road.
  • In consideration of public safety during inclement weather, the Municipality of Tuba through the Tuba Municipal Police Station (Tuba MPS) can immediately close Kennon Road and inform the IATG Kennon for public advisory.

If the weather condition permits, Kennon Road may be used for the transportation or delivery of basic necessities, including COVID-19 response operations for the Cordilleras, still following the five (5) ton limit.
