Ilocos Norte Unveils New Geriatric Center, Bolstering Senior Healthcare in Northern Luzon
Ilocos Norte is now home to a state-of-the-art geriatric center, designed to offer specialized health services tailored for the province’s senior citizens. This significant development aims to cater to the health needs of more than 77,100 elderly residents, focusing on promoting healthy aging and significantly improving their overall quality of life.
The Department of Health (DOH) has affirmed that the newly inaugurated facility will serve as a crucial hub for age-friendly and comprehensive healthcare. Officials from the DOH-Ilocos Region Center for Health Development, alongside the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMHMC), spearheaded the opening ceremonies for the center.
This initiative is anticipated to fortify the enforcement of the Universal Health Care Act by extending accessible, specialized healthcare services directly to communities throughout Northern Luzon. DOH-Ilocos chief Helen Tobias highlighted the timely nature of the center’s establishment, underscoring it as a direct response to one of the region’s most notable demographic shifts—the growing senior population.
