Facebook will hire 10,000 employees to build the metaverse

Facebook plans to hire 10,000 employees in the EU to build the metaverse. It was August of 2021 when reports about Facebook’s plans on building this digital world. Mark Zuckerberg believes that the metaverse is the future and this is why the Facebook CEO is leading the charge in building it. It is because of this, that much of Facebook’s efforts and resources will be dedicated to this project.

What is the Metaverse?

A metaverse is a digital environment where people can “live”. It is a virtual world which you can access online which is made possible by virtual reality and augmented reality. In this virtual world, you can communicate, trade, and conduct business like shop similar to what you do in real life. Soon, communication via Zoom may become a thing of the past as you can create a virtual world for your office meetings. Shopping online may become a lot more interactive and brings you closer to the actual store even if it is halfway around the world. Metaverse is a whole new world in the digital space, kinda like the world in the movie Matrix without Agent Smith and a computer overlord called the Deus Ex Machina.

 Facebook reported changing its name

Reports have recently been published that Facebook plans to change its name which may be in line with its shift of focus into the metaverse. While it is still unknown if the rebrand will happen or when many are saying that this change also has something to do with the close government scrutiny that Facebook is in right now. Just early month a former Facebook employee revealed that the company is aware of its negative effects on users, to cite an example, the potential negative effects of Instagram on teen girls.

While the change of name may be considered a huge move from a company known globally by its billions of users, this is not the first company to do so. In 2015 Google transformed into a sub-company under its holding company named Alphabet.

Many are expecting the new name will be announced soon however this is a closely guarded secret that not even the most senior members of the company have the slightest clue about.
