DPWH: New Daang Katutubo is Now 64% Complete



The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has announced through its Facebook page on Sunday, February 7, 2021, that the new Daang Katutubo access road in Pangasinan is now 64 percent complete.

DPWH added that Kankanaey, Bago, and Ibaloi groups in Barangay Mapita will benefit from the said road.

According to Secretary Mark A. Villar of DPWH, the ongoing construction of the access road with a total length of 27.6-kilometers  leading to Mapita Community and View deck to Nayong Aguilar in Aguilar, Pangasinan is expected to improve access of indigenous communities to social services.

In a statement of Secretary Villar, he stated that:

“This road improvement will give boost to the growth of tourism, provide economic opportunities, and will allow the indigenous people to have better access to basic social services available in more urbanized areas.”

In addition, Secretary Villar added that “DPWH is working full-time to deliver this project on time in order to help promote the growing agro-tourism industry and provide more opportunities for the local community in Aguilar.”

Furthermore, once the access road is completed, the following will be possible:

  • Travel time from the town proper of Aguilar, Pangasinan to the community will be reduced from one hour to just 30 minutes
  • Will provide more reliable access to the view deck of the Ylang Ylang Plantation at Nayong Aguilar

Also, DPWH has stated on their post that the access road project involves the following:

  • Construction of concrete roads
  • A 120.9-meter bridge
  • Drainage
  • Slope protection
  • Pavement markings
  • Road safety facilities

And, the following is expected to be completed by 2022.
