Excerpt: The Department of Education has extended work-from-home arrangements every Friday for school-based personnel from April 10 to June 5, 2026, as part of its ongoing energy conservation measures.
The Department of Education (DepEd) has issued a memorandum dated April 9, 2026, expanding its existing work-from-home (WFH) policy. The updated directive now covers school-based personnel during the end-of-school-year break.
The memorandum amends provisions of the earlier issuance dated March 11, 2026, which clarified the implementation of WFH every Friday under DepEd Memorandum (DM) No. 018, s. 2026.
Signed by Undersecretary and Chief of Staff Atty. Fatima Lipp D. Panontongan, the updated policy reinforces the department’s commitment to energy conservation and flexible work arrangements.
The WFH arrangement every Friday will be implemented from April 10, 2026 to June 5, 2026.
The revised directive now includes:
This is in addition to existing flexible work arrangements where personnel follow a four-day onsite schedule from Monday to Thursday, with WFH observed every Friday.
School heads are instructed to ensure that the WFH arrangement does not affect essential school operations. Appropriate staffing measures must be in place to maintain continuity of services throughout the implementation period.
All provisions under DM No. 018, s. 2026, and the March 11, 2026 clarificatory memorandum that are not affected by this update shall remain in full force and effect.
The Department has directed immediate dissemination of the memorandum and strict compliance among all concerned offices and personnel.
The expansion of WFH Fridays forms part of broader government efforts to manage energy consumption and adapt to current operational challenges. DepEd continues to implement measures that balance workforce efficiency with uninterrupted delivery of education services.
