Baguio and Benguet DepEd Schools Divisions Topped 2020 Math Competition



It was recently announced by the Public Information Office of the City of Baguio (PIO Baguio) that the Baguio and Benguet Department of Education schools divisions topped the 2020 Mathematical Investigation Competition, which has the theme “providing quality, accessible, relevant, mathematics education for all in the new normal.”

It was revealed in the Regional Memorandum No. 006 s. 2021 which was signed by DepEd Cordillera Director Estela Carino on January 7, 2021, that Baguio and Benguet took two wins each to rule the competition which was in participated by Grades 4 to 12 learners from both public and private schools.

Based on the memorandum, the top three (3) winners in each category shall receive certificates of recognition and medals. The certificates and medals are said to be sent to the winners’ school addresses via courier.

As reported by the PIO Baguio, the said competition was held last year, 2020, from September 1 to October 15; while the virtual awards ceremony was held just last month, December 23, 2020. The awards ceremony was then streamed live over the DepEd Tayo Cordillera Facebook page.

The math competition “intends to facilitate the integration of learning outcomes in Mathematics and across curriculum areas within the Basic Education K-to-12 curriculum,” stated the PIO Baguio. The opportunity to discover the practical applications of Mathematics was also provided to the learners through the competition.
