2 Earthquakes Rocked the Philippines Nearly 30 Minutes Apart



Earthquake at Sarangani (Davao Occidental)

A magnitude 6.2 earthquake has rocked Sarangani (Davao Occidental) at 7:21 AM today (Wednesday), December 16, 2020. Based on the report issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) at 8:40 AM today, the said earthquake was tectonic in origin.

  • Intensity V – General Santos City, South Cotabato
  • Intensity IV – Kiamba, Alabel, Maasim, Glan, Malungon and Malapatan Saranggani; Lebak, Sultan Kudarat; Datu Blah Sinsuat, Maguindanao; Koronadal City,
    Polomolok, Tampakan and Tupi, South Cotabato
  • Intensity III – Maitum, Sarangani; Cotabato City, Maguindanao; Davao City; Kidapawan City, North Cotabato; Tantangan and Santo Nino, South Cotabato;
  • Intensity II – Columbio, Sultan Kudarat; Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat; Magpet, North Cotabato
  • Intensity I – Zamboanga City

Instrumental Intensities

  • Intensity V – Gen. Santos City, South Cotabato
  • Intensity IV – Kiamba, Saranggani; Tupi, South Cotabato; Koronadal City, South Cotabato
  • Intensity III – Kidapawan City, North Cotabato; Alabel, Saranggani; Kidapawan City, North Cotabato

Earthquake at Bato (Catanduanes)

Furthermore, at 8:00 AM on the same day, another part of the country has experienced an earthquake. PHIVOLCS reported that Bato (Catanduanes) was rocked by a magnitude 4.1 earthquake which was tectonic in origin.
