The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has released an updated bulletin on Tropical Depression “Enteng,” which continues to maintain its strength as it moves northwestward.
Earlier today, PAGASA issued its first advisory for Tropical Depression “Enteng” at 11:00 AM, reporting that the system had developed from a low-pressure area east of Eastern Visayas. At that time, “Enteng” was located approximately 120 km north-northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, or 150 km east of Catarman, Northern Samar. The system was moving northwestward at 30 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h and gustiness up to 55 km/h.
Since the first advisory, “Enteng” has maintained its strength and speed, with its current center located 110 km east-northeast of Catarman, Northern Samar. The tropical depression is expected to continue intensifying and moving northwestward over the next few days, potentially reaching tropical storm status by tomorrow.
“Enteng” is forecast to continue moving generally northwestward to north-northwestward today, gradually intensifying over the next few days. On its current track, the system may approach the Bicol Region-Eastern Visayas area within the next 48 hours, where landfall cannot be ruled out. The tropical depression is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm by tomorrow.
Forecast Positions:
Heavy Rainfall Outlook: Residents in affected areas should prepare for heavy rainfall, with forecast accumulated rainfall as follows:
Flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in mountainous areas or locations that have experienced significant rainfall in recent days. The enhanced Southwest Monsoon is also expected to bring moderate to intense rainfall to other areas of Luzon and Visayas, particularly along the western portions.
The following areas are currently under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 due to Tropical Depression “Enteng”:
Minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are possible within these areas. Additionally, strong to gale-force gusts are expected due to the enhanced Southwest Monsoon, especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds.
Areas Affected by Strong Winds:
In the next 24 hours, moderate to rough seas are expected over the eastern seaboards of Central Luzon and Southern Luzon (1.5 to 3.5 meters), the seaboard of Northern Samar, the eastern seaboard of Eastern Samar, and the seaboard of Kalayaan Islands (1.5 to 3.0 meters). Mariners of small seacrafts are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions.
Moderate seas (1.5 to 2.5 meters) are expected over other seaboards, with precautionary measures advised for mariners navigating these waters.
Residents in the affected areas are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions. The next bulletin will be issued at 5:00 PM today.
