Philippines on Alert: LPA East of Samar Poised to Intensify, Bring Heavy Rains

The Philippines is bracing for potential inclement weather as a low-pressure area (LPA) situated east of Eastern Samar is highly likely to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, according to an announcement made by the state weather bureau PAGASA on Monday, June 29.

As of 8 a.m. on Monday, PAGASA located the weather system approximately 390 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar. Forecasters warn that this LPA is expected to usher in significant rainfall across various regions of the country over the coming days, even prior to its anticipated intensification into a full-fledged storm.

Residents in several areas have been advised to prepare for heavy downpours. From Monday, June 29, until noon of Tuesday, June 30, rainfall amounts ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters are forecast for Sorsogon, Albay, Masbate, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, and Romblon.

The same rainfall intensity is projected to continue from Tuesday noon, June 30, until Wednesday noon, July 1, affecting a different set of provinces. These include Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Marinduque, Masbate, and Sorsogon. Authorities urge the public to stay informed through official channels and take necessary precautions.
