Nightbirde’s Emotional “Golden Buzzer” Audition Reaches 37 Million Views

“If you’re lost we’re all a little lost and it’s alright.”

Nobody at America’s Got Talent expected a heartwrenching performance when Jane Marczewski, who goes by the name Nightbirde, graced the audition stage on Wednesday.

Behind the sweet smile and ethereal voice, the 30-year-old singer from Zanesville, Ohio is carrying a heavy burden to which became the inspiration behind her original piece entitled “It’s OK.”

“‘It’s OK’ is the story of the last year of my life,” Marczewski said when AGT judge Howie Mandel asked what the song is about. Nightbirde is currently battling cancer.

When Simon Cowell asked how she was now, the answer was a bit complicated, “the last time I checked, I had some cancer in my lungs, in my spine, and my liver,” she said. According to her during the post-interview, she has a 2% chance of beating it. “2 percent is not zero percent. Two percent is something and I wish people knew how amazing is that.”

“It’s important that everyone knows I’m so much more than the bad things that happened to me,” she added.

By the time Nightbirde finished singing, the silence was deafening, which was immediately followed by roaring applause and a standing ovation from the audience and the four judges.

Judge Sofia Vergara, who was shedding tears during the performance said that Nightbirde’s singing was powerful and heartfelt. “That felt like the most authentic thing I have heard this season.” Howie Mandel told the singer.

Cowell, however, was floored by the performance. “There was something about that song after the way you just almost casually told us what you’re going through.” he praised. What Nightbirde said next brought him to the brink of his emotions:

You can’t wait until the world isn’t hard anymore before you decide to be happy.

– Nightbirde

Although Nightbirde came to the audition alone, she went home as Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer act, automatically giving her a pass to the live shows which will be held in August.

The audition piece, which was posted on Wednesday, has since then gone viral and garnered 37 million views on Facebook and 5.6 million on YouTube.

It’s OK by Nightbirde Lyrics

I moved to California in the summertime
I changed my name thinking that it would change my mind
I thought that all my problems they would stay behind
I was a stick of dynamite and it just was A matter of time, yeah

Oh, dang, oh, my,
now I can’t hide
Said I knew myself but I guess I lied
It’s okay, it’s okay
it’s okay, it’s okay
If you’re lost
We’re all a little lost
and it’s all right
It’s okay, it’s okay
it’s okay, it’s okay
If you’re lost
We’re all a little lost and it’s all right
It’s all right
it’s all right
It’s all right

I wrote a hundred pages, but I burned them all
Yeah, I burned them all
I blow through yellow lights and don’t look back at all
I don’t look back at all

Oh, dang, oh, my,
now I can’t hide
Said I knew myself but I guess I lied
It’s okay, it’s okay
it’s okay, it’s okay
If you’re lost
We’re all a little lost
and it’s all right
It’s okay, it’s okay
it’s okay, it’s okay
If you’re lost
We’re all a little lost and it’s all right
it’s all right to be lost sometimes
