Kennon Road will be opened to traffic starting November 26, 2021, subject to certain conditions. In a recent press release from the Office of the Civil Defense Cordillera Administrative Region and the Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Council, they have stated that Kennon Road will be opened to traffic every 5:00 AM of Friday to 5:00 AM Sunday going up to Baguio only, and on Sunday from 5:00 AM to 12:00 midnight for motorists who are Manila bound or going down only.
This is after Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong requested the opening of Kennon road to lessen the traffic congestion at the Marcos Highway quarantine checkpoint which is being experienced during the weekends after Baguio City opened its doors to tourists.
It could be remembered that the ongoing rehabilitation of Kennon road was among the reasons why this national road was indefinitely closed to motorists coming from other provinces and only residents in the area were allowed to pass through.
