Inday Maintains Strength; Habagat to Continue Affecting Most of the Country

Typhoon Inday maintained its strength as it moved north northwestward toward the southern islands of Japan, PAGASA said late Friday afternoon, July 10, 2026. Batanes, parts of Babuyan Islands, and Santa Ana in Cagayan remain under Signal No. 2, while Benguet and several areas in Northern Luzon are experiencing rains due to the Southwest Monsoon and Typhoon Inday.

 

Typhoon Inday, internationally known as Bavi, maintained its strength while moving over the Philippine Sea, according to PAGASA’s Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 12 issued at 5:00 PM on Friday.

As of 4:00 PM, the center of Inday was estimated at 525 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.

The typhoon had maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 170 kilometers per hour, and a central pressure of 960 hectopascals.

It was moving north northwestward at 20 kilometers per hour.

Signal No. 2 Still Up Over Batanes, Parts of Cagayan

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 remains raised over:

– Batanes
– Eastern portion of Babuyan Islands
– Babuyan Island
– Didicas Island
– Camiguin Island
– Northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan
– Santa Ana

Areas under Signal No. 2 may experience gale-force winds that may bring minor to moderate impacts to life and property.

Signal No. 1 Areas

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remains raised over:

– Rest of Babuyan Islands
– Rest of mainland Cagayan
– Isabela
– Apayao
– Kalinga
– Ilocos Norte

 

Signal No. 1 is also up over parts of Abra, Mountain Province, and Ifugao.

Baguio City and Benguet are not under any tropical cyclone wind signal based on the 5:00 PM bulletin.

Rains Over Benguet and Nearby Areas

In Rainfall Advisory No. 5 issued at 5:00 PM on Friday, July 10, the PAGASA Northern Luzon Regional Services Division reported light to moderate to at times heavy rains over several areas due to the Southwest Monsoon and Typhoon Inday.

These rains are being experienced in:

– Pangasinan
– La Union
– Benguet
– Batanes
– Dingalan, Aurora
– Parts of Ilocos Sur
– Parts of Mountain Province
– Parts of Ifugao
– Parts of Ilocos Norte
– Parts of Abra

PAGASA said the rains may persist within 2 to 3 hours and may affect nearby areas.

Light to moderate rains are also expected within the next 2 to 3 hours over parts of Aurora, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Ilocos Norte, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, and the Babuyan Group of Islands in Cagayan.

The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices are advised to monitor weather conditions and watch for the next warning to be issued at 8:00 PM today.

Residents along mountain slopes are advised to take precautionary measures against possible landslides, mudslides, rockslides, and flash floods.

Habagat Effects

PAGASA said the enhanced Southwest Monsoon and the outer circulation of Typhoon Inday may bring strong to gale-force gusts over most of the country today and tomorrow, July 11.

By Sunday, July 12, these conditions may still affect most of Luzon, most of Visayas, Zamboanga del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, Camiguin, and Davao Oriental.

 

Residents in Baguio City and Benguet are advised to continue monitoring local rainfall advisories, especially in areas prone to landslides, rockslides, mudslides, and flash floods.

Sea Conditions

A Gale Warning is in effect over the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon.

PAGASA said sea travel is risky over areas with very rough to high seas.

Waves may reach up to:

– 7.0 meters over the northern and eastern seaboards of Batanes

– 6.0 meters over the seaboard of Babuyan Islands, northeastern mainland Cagayan, and remaining seaboard of Batanes

– 5.0 meters over the remaining seaboard of mainland Cagayan

– 4.5 meters over the seaboards of Isabela and northern Aurora

Mariners are advised to remain in port or seek shelter until winds and waves subside.

Track Outlook

Inday is forecast to move northwestward while remaining over the Philippine Sea.

It may pass closest to Extreme Northern Luzon between tonight and early Saturday morning, July 11.

PAGASA said Inday may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday morning or afternoon, then make landfall over the eastern coast of mainland China by Saturday evening or early Sunday morning.

Inday is forecast to remain a typhoon until it exits PAR. It may weaken into a severe tropical storm after moving farther inland over mainland China.

The next tropical cyclone bulletin will be issued at 11:00 PM today.
