Free Botanical Garden Access to BLISTT Residents Extended until January 2026

Residents of Baguio and its neighboring towns in the BLISTT area (La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, Tuba, and Tublay) can continue enjoying free entry to the Baguio Botanical Garden for another six months. The free access was made official through Executive Order No. 62, series of 2025, which extends the privilege from August 1, 2025 until January 31, 2026.

Extension of an Earlier Program

Mayor Benjamin Magalong approved the measure on August 18, 2025, following the success of the initial free-access periods earlier this year. The first privilege was granted during and after the Panagbenga Festival when residents of the BLISTT communities were given complimentary admission as recognition of their support for the city’s flagship celebration.

Requirements for Free Entry

BLISTT residents who wish to avail of the free admission must show proof of residence upon entry. Acceptable documents include:

  • A government-issued ID with a BLISTT address
  • A barangay clearance
  • Other official documents recognized by the city confirming their residency

Why the Program Was Renewed

City Environment and Parks Management Officer Rhenan Diwas recommended the continuation of the initiative after observing its benefits. His report showed that the privilege encouraged more community participation, increased the number of visitors as residents invited relatives from outside BLISTT, and even resulted in higher revenues compared to the previous year.

Purpose of the Ordinance

Councilor Jose Molintas, who authored the ordinance, explained that the free access is both a gesture of appreciation to the BLISTT communities and a way of promoting environmental awareness. Making green spaces accessible, he added, fosters inclusivity and strengthens the connection between Baguio and its neighboring municipalities.

Implementation

The City Environment and Parks Management Office will oversee the program, including the verification of resident identification and monitoring of operations during the extension period.

The Baguio Botanical Garden remains one of the city’s most popular attractions, and officials hope that extending free access will inspire more people to connect with nature while supporting local tourism.
