Baguio CVAO Offers Free Rabies Vaccination, Deworming and Puspin Kapon on Sept. 14

Excerpt:Baguio City residents may avail of rabies vaccination, deworming, and limited spay and castration services for their pets on September 14, 2026, at the City Veterinary and Agriculture Office in Barangay Sto. Niño.

The Baguio City Veterinary and Agriculture Office (CVAO) will conduct pet welfare services on Monday, September 14, 2026, as part of Handog ng Pangulo 2026.

The activity will be held at the CVAO, Slaughterhouse Compound, Barangay Sto. Niño, Baguio City and will cater to walk-in clients who are Baguio residents.

Pet Welfare Services Available

The following services will be offered:

Admission for spay and castration will be from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, but CVAO may stop accepting pets earlier once all available slots have been filled.

Services will be provided on a first come, first served basis.

Spay and Castration Fees

For Pusang Pinoy or Puspins, spay and castration services are free.

For Asong Pinoy or Aspins, fees prescribed under City Ordinance No. 19, series of 2021, will apply:

• Male dogs: ₱1,000
• Female dogs: ₱1,500

Aspins and Puspins are given priority for the spay and castration program.

Requirements for Cats

Cats undergoing spay or castration should generally be 6 months to 4 years old. Cats aged four years and above will require a CBC test.

Pet owners should also take note of the following requirements:

• Only one pet per owner will be accommodated.
• The cat must have received an anti-rabies vaccination at least two weeks before surgery.
• The cat must be healthy and should not have cough, colds, diarrhea, prolapse, hernia, mastitis, or pyometra.
• The cat should not be taking medication, or at least one week should have passed since its previous medication.
• Cats must be fasted from food and water for six to eight hours before surgery.
• Cats must weigh at least 1.5 kilograms.
• A mother cat may be spayed if her kittens are already eating solid food.
• Cats should be placed in a pet cage, with one pet per cage.

Requirements for Dogs

Dogs scheduled for spay or castration should also generally be 6 months to 4 years old, while dogs four years old and above will require a CBC test.

Dogs should:

• Have been vaccinated against rabies at least two weeks before surgery
• Be healthy and free from conditions such as cough, colds, diarrhea, prolapse, hernia, mastitis, and pyometra
• Not be taking medication, or be at least one week removed from previous medication
• Be fasted from food and water for six to eight hours before surgery
• Be leashed or placed in a cage, with only one pet per cage

Mother dogs may also undergo spaying if their puppies are already eating solid food.

What Pet Owners Should Bring

Those availing of the spay and castration services should bring:

• Pet’s rabies vaccination card
• Pet owner’s valid identification showing a Baguio City address, or a barangay certificate
• Towel or blanket
• Poop or litter bag
• Ballpen
• Applicable fees for dog spay or castration

A maximum of two people may accompany each pet to help prevent overcrowding at the venue.

CVAO also noted that pet owners who have previously availed themselves of its spay and castration services will be given lower priority.

September 14 Pet Welfare Activity

The September 14 activity is open to Baguio City residents only. Walk-in clients will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis, subject to the availability of supplies and slots.

Pet owners planning to avail themselves of the limited spay and castration slots are advised to prepare all requirements beforehand and arrive within the designated admission period.
