The province of Kalinga is among the areas within the country which were identified as low-risk areas which will be placed under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) starting tomorrow, May 1, 2020.
Health officers and members of the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force (PIATF) on COVID-19 in Kalinga disclosed their plans and efforts in preparation for the coming implementation of GCQ in the province. This announcement has been posted by the Province of Kalinga official Facebook page today.
The Tabuk City local government unit (LGU) plans to maintain existing checkpoints located at various strategic areas within the city. According to City Health Officer Dr. Henrietta Bagayao, doing this is essential to keep the city’s COVID-19 free status.
In addition to the checkpoints, the Tabuk Gymnasium was also identified and designated as the City Isolation Unit. Moreover, the establishment of Barangay Isolation Units (BIUs) in 42 barangays in the city is also in progress.
For the municipality of Tinglayan, the LGU is also preparing the municipal and isolation units. According to Tinglayan Municipal Health Officer Liw-agan, they have also informed the body of their procurement of medical supplies.
As for Pasil, they are also preparing isolation units. But aside from that, the LGU has also raised the concern regarding four barangays within the municipality that are unreachable by transportation.
The Balbalan LGU has informed the body that some of their isolation units are now ready. Moreover, they plan to use Balbalan Centro as the isolation units of those who are from the inaccessible barangays.
The Tanudan LGU, on the other hand, shared that they are in the process of preparing their isolation units.
The body unanimously agreed to recommend Local Chief Executives to delay the repatriation of stranded residents outside the province because LGUs need more time for preparation as they are not yet ready for the return of large numbers of individuals to their respective places.
All concerns and recommendations during the meeting will be brought to the attention of the governor and mayors of each LGU as assured by the Meeting Chairperson Dr. Ignacio Cawas of the Provincial Health Office.
