Baguio Prepares for Monsoon Rains as PAGASA Issues Advisory on TC Inday and Southwest Monsoon

PAGASA, the country’s national weather bureau, has issued Weather Advisory No. 14, alerting the public to the combined effects of Tropical Cyclone INDAY and the Southwest Monsoon from July 9 to July 12, 2026. While TC INDAY is projected to primarily affect Batanes, its enhancement of the Southwest Monsoon is expected to bring significant rainfall to various parts of Luzon, including Baguio City and the wider Benguet province.

For residents of Benguet, the advisory forecasts 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall from the evening of July 10, through Saturday evening, July 11, and continuing into Sunday evening, July 12. This level of precipitation carries the potential for localized flooding, particularly in urbanized, low-lying areas, and regions adjacent to rivers. Furthermore, landslides are possible in areas identified as highly susceptible.

A critical note for Baguio and its mountainous terrain is that rainfall amounts in elevated areas may be significantly higher than the general forecast. This increases the inherent risk of both flooding and landslides, urging heightened vigilance among residents and visitors.

While other areas like Occidental Mindoro, Zambales, and Bataan are bracing for heavier rains (100-200mm) due to the monsoon, Baguio City’s unique topography makes even moderate rainfall a concern for potential hazards.

Local disaster risk reduction and management offices in Benguet and Baguio City are strongly advised by PAGASA to implement all necessary preparatory measures to safeguard lives and property. The public is encouraged to stay updated with local weather bulletins and advisories from PAGASA Regional Services Divisions for more specific information relevant to their immediate localities.

The next official weather advisory is anticipated at 5:00 AM tomorrow, unless significant weather changes occur, as PAGASA continues its commitment to “tracking the sky … helping the country.”
