Typhoon “Chedeng” (international name: Guchol) has intensified in the middle of the Philippine Sea, according to the latest bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

As of 4:00 AM today, the eye of Typhoon Chedeng was located approximately 875 km east of Northern Luzon. The storm now boasts maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h near the center, with gustiness of up to 185 km/h. Its central pressure is now at 955 hPa.
Chedeng is moving north northwestward at a slow pace, and its strong to typhoon-force winds extend up to 520 km from the center. No wind signals have been hoisted at this time.
Chedeng is not expected to bring direct heavy rainfall over the country within the next three days. However, the Southwest Monsoon may be enhanced by the typhoon, leading to occasional rains over the western portions of Luzon and Visayas in the next three days.
Gusty conditions due to the enhancement of the Southwest Monsoon may affect coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds, particularly in regions like Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Visayas, and other specified areas.
Within the next 24 hours, Chedeng may cause moderate to rough seas (2.0 to 3.5 m) over the seaboards of Extreme Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of mainland Northern Luzon. Mariners of small seacrafts are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea, while inexperienced or ill-equipped vessels should avoid these conditions.
On its forecast track, Chedeng is expected to stay away from the Philippine landmass and move northward or north northeastward today. Over the weekend, the typhoon may accelerate northeastward towards the sea southeast and east of the Ryukyu Islands. It is anticipated to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) between late tomorrow evening or early Monday morning.
The typhoon is forecast to maintain its strength throughout the weekend before beginning a weakening trend on Monday. However, slight intensification within the next 12 hours is not ruled out.
