Tropical Depression “Kiko” Forms East Northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon




Tropical Depression Kiko developed from a low pressure area east northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon. It is not expected to directly affect the country but is forecast to intensify as it moves toward southern Japan.

At 11:00 AM today, September 3, 2025, PAGASA issued Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 1 for Tropical Depression Kiko. The system developed from a low pressure area located east northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon. As of 10:00 AM, the center of Kiko was estimated at 1,170 km east northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon (24.2°N, 132.6°E). The depression carries maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 70 km/h while moving northward at 15 km/h.

Track and Intensity Outlook

Kiko is forecast to move generally northward or north northwestward within the next 24 hours toward southern Japan. It is expected to accelerate and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility later this afternoon. The system may intensify into a tropical storm tonight or by early morning tomorrow, September 4.




Hazards Affecting Land Areas

The tropical depression is unlikely to directly affect the Philippines throughout the forecast period. No heavy rainfall or significant weather impacts are expected over land areas.

  • No Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) is currently in effect over any part of the country.




Hazards Affecting Coastal Waters

Sea conditions in the coastal waters of the country will not be affected by Tropical Depression Kiko.
