“Mass” Gathering Now Allowed in Baguio

Both the local government and the religious sector agreed to allow church services in Baguio City during the Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ).

Mayor Benjamin Magalong, in a meeting with leaders of religious organizations, has acknowledged that church services are essential activities. Hence, they should be allowed under MGCQ.

According to the Public Information Office – City of Baguio (PIO-Baguio), the reopening of churches will be subject to guidelines compliant with the health and safety standards on the prevention and control of the Coronavirus disease or COVID-19.

Requirements for Churches in Baguio City

Here’s are the requirements that churches in Baguio need to meet in order to be allowed to conduct services while the city is under the MGCQ classification:

• Churches and groups will have to submit their guidelines to the mayor
• Ocular inspection of their churches, mosques or prayer halls will be conducted
• Services will only commence after the approval of the guidelines and issuance of certificates of compliance by the city government

Rules Discussed During the Consultation Meeting

Furthermore, these are some of the rules discussed during their consultation meeting  as published by the PIO-Baguio:

• Limiting attendees to 10 percent (10%)of the capacity of the church, mosque, or prayer hall.
  • Senior Citizens and those younger than 20 will be allowed to join Sunday services but Sunday school for children will  NOT be allowed still
• Strict observance of all health protocols
  • i.e. one meter-radius physical distancing, use of masks and availability of alcohol;
• List of attendeeswith details must be madeavailable for contact tracing; and
• Time of Sunday services shall only be from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

The church leaders who attended the meeting have committed to comply with the precautionary measures in order not to complicate the COVID-19 problem nor jeopardize the programs of the city government.
