25-year-old Filipino boxer Eumir Marcial secured another spot for the Philippines’ drive to a historic multi-medal Olympic finish at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as he wins via KO versus Armenian opponent Arman Darchinyan on Sunday at the Kokugikan Arena.
The University of Baguio alumni from Zamboanga quickly secured his spot into the semifinals of the men’s middleweight division after delivering a powerful right hook, knocking out Darchinyan just 49 seconds remaining for the first round.
With this win, Marcial is assured to get at least a bronze medal, topping the year of breaking Olympic records for the Philippines, with weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz’s gold medal and fellow boxer Nesthy Petecio’s fight to go for the gold medal.
Marcial is set to fight Ukraine’s Oleksandr Khyzhniak on August 5, 2021, at the Kokugikan Arena for the silver medal.
