During the UGNAYAN at the Baguio City Hall yesterday, May 21, 2020, the status of public transportation in Baguio City under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) have also been discussed.
According to Mayor Benjamin Magalong, only about 10% of public utility vehicles (PUVs) have been deployed right now due to stringent measures being implemented especially by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
And when asked if buses will now be permitted to travel in and out of Baguio City, the mayor said, “Pasensya na po kayo pero hindi pa rin po pwedeng payagan ‘yong mga buses.”
Mayor Magalong explained that it can be a challenge to manage buses full of passengers, especially those coming from areas under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ). Hence, in the meantime, he said that no buses will be allowed to travel to and from the city.
As for the applicants of the Balik Probinsya Program, Executive Assistant V Engr. Felipe Puzon said that the city is not yet able to make any public transport arrangements due to lack of funds. As of now, they are only allowing people who are capable of renting vehicles or can use their private vehicles to go out of the city.
