During an interview with BFMTV yesterday, July 12, 2020, French epidemiologist Arnaud Fontanet said that “we have to live with this virus” as it is unlikely to have a full coronavirus vaccine by 2021.
According to Fontanet, vaccine development takes several years. “Of course, there is an unprecedented effort to develop a vaccine, but I would be very surprised if we had that was effective in 2021,” he said.
Furthermore, he also explained that even if a partially-working vaccine may be developed, we are very far from ending this crisis.
Thus, the French expert urges the public to go back to ‘more serious habits’ and take social distancing measures seriously.
