Typhoon Uwan Further Intensifies as It Nears the Bicol Region; CAR Now Under Signal No. 2





Typhoon Uwan (Fung-wong) has further intensified as it moves closer toward the Bicol Region, with the entire Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) now under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2, according to PAGASA’s latest bulletin.

  • Location (as of 10:00 PM): 380 km East of Virac, Catanduanes (13.5°N, 127.7°E)
  • Maximum sustained winds: 155 km/h near the center
  • Gustiness: Up to 190 km/h
  • Central pressure: 950 hPa
  • Movement: West northwestward at 35 km/h
  • Extent of winds: Strong to typhoon-force winds extending outward up to 800 km from the center

Track and Intensity Outlook

  • Typhoon Uwan will continue moving west-northwestward through Sunday, possibly passing close to Catanduanes in the morning.
  • Landfall is expected over Aurora by Sunday evening or early Monday.
  • Uwan may intensify into a super typhoon before landfall, then weaken slightly while crossing Northern Luzon, emerging over the Lingayen Gulf by Monday.

Coastal Waters

Gale Warning is in effect for seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Eastern Visayas and Mindanao, with waves up to 14 meters. Sea travel is extremely risky for all types of vessels.
