Tropical DepressionSalome continues to move west southwestward over the sea east of Taiwan while maintaining its strength. The system is expected to bring strong winds and rough seas over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and parts of Northern Luzon.

• Location of Center (4:00 PM): 215 km North Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes (22.4°N, 123.0°E)
• Intensity: Maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 70 km/h, and central pressure of 1004 hPa
• Present Movement: West southwestward at 10 km/h
• Extent of Winds: Strong winds extend outwards up to 200 km from the center

Luzon:

• Batanes

Hazards Affecting Land Areas

• Heavy Rainfall Outlook: Localized heavy rains expected over Batanes and nearby islands. Residents in low-lying and mountainous areas are advised to remain alert for possible flooding or landslides.
• Severe Winds: Minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are expected within the areas under Signal No. 1. Slight intensification into a tropical storm remains possible, which could raise the warning level to Signal No. 2.
• Gusty Conditions: Northeasterly winds will bring strong to gale-force gusts over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Cagayan today; and over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Northern Luzon in the following days.

  • Up to 3.5 m: Seaboard of Ilocos Sur and northern seaboard of Cagayan
  • Up to 3.0 m: Western seaboard of Pangasinan and remaining seaboards of Cagayan
  • Mariners are advised to avoid sea travel as conditions are risky for small to medium vessels.

Track and Intensity Outlook

Salome is expected to continue moving southwestward under the influence of a High Pressure Area over mainland China. The system may pass close or make landfall over Batanes tonight or early tomorrow, then move near Babuyan Islands and Ilocos Norte within the next 24 hours. It is forecast to weaken into a remnant low by Friday but may still slightly intensify into a tropical storm before doing so.
