Looking back in the month of June, a lineup of stunning astronomical events have brought life to the skies. These include two eclipses and many other astronomical wonders. Now, in this month of July, there more of these astronomical events to look forward to and it includes a meteor shower.
As of today, the first day of the month of July 2020, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) have already released the Astronomical Events for July in their Astronomical Diary.
Starring in their Astronomical Diary is the Southern Delta Aquarid meteor shower. This meteor shower, according to PAGASA, is part of a complex of radiant in Aquarius, Capricornus, and Piscis Austrinus, all of which combine with sporadic and early Perseid activity to provide a nice display of meteors in the last week of the month.
Its radiant will originate from the constellation of the Aquarius-the Water Bearer and it normally produces about 5-10 meteors/hour with overall activity of about 15 meteors/hour under good sky conditions.
However, unfortunately, the bright Moon will interfere with the activity.
The Southern Delta Aquarid meteor shower will be best observed from July 28, 2020, to July 31, 2020.
Moreover, the peak of the meteor shower estimated to peak before midnight and onwards on July 29/30.
Other than the Southern Delta Aquarid Meteor Shower, a grand view of planets is also expected to be observed this July. This grand view of planets will be observed from July 1 to July 31 at 4:00 AM, from the east towards the western horizon.
Planets such as Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Mars, Uranus, and Venus will become very good targets for astrophotography.
