Parts of Luzon and Visayas under Signal Number 1 and 2 due to TS #DantePH

As Tropical Storm Dante (CHOI-WAN) heads towards the vicinity of Romblon to make landfall, several areas in Luzon and Visayas have been placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals 1 and 2 in the most recent Tropical Cyclone bulletin released by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday.

Location of Center #DantePH

The center of Tropical Storm “DANTE” (CHOI-WAN) was estimated based on all available data including those from Iloilo Doppler Weather Radar over the southern coastal waters of Romblon, Romblon (12.4°N, 122.3°E). It has a maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center, gustiness up to 90 km/h, and central pressure of 1000 hPa and is currently moving west at 25 km/h with gale-force winds extending outward up to 50 km from the center.

Track and Intensity Outlook

  • “DANTE” will begin turning more northwestward and may pass near or in the vicinity of Oriental Mindoro or Marinduque before making another landfall over Batangas-southern Quezon area. A more north northwestward movement is likely beginning tonight as the tropical cyclone moves over mainland Luzon. “DANTE” may emerge
over the West Philippine Sea via the Lingayen Gulf tomorrow early morning.
  • Due to increased vertical wind shear and land interaction, this tropical storm is forecast to maintain its strength until it makes landfall over mainland Luzon. Further land interaction with the rugged terrain of mainland Luzon will weaken “DANTE” into a tropical depression tonight.

Heavy Rainfall Forecast

Today through tomorrow early morning, Tropical Storm “DANTE” is forecast to bring:
  • Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over CALABARZON, Romblon, Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, and the northern portion of Negros Occidental.
  • Moderate to heavy rains over Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, the northern portion of Palawan including Calamian, Cuyo, and Cagayancillo Islands, the rest of Negros Occidental, and the northern portion of Cebu including Bantayan Islands.
  • Light to moderate with at times heavy rains over the rest of Central Luzon, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, the rest of MIMAROPA, Negros Oriental, the rest of Cebu including Camotes Islands, Bohol, Biliran, Leyte, and Southern Leyte.
  • Under these conditions and considering antecedent rainfall, scattered to widespread flooding (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides are expected, especially in areas with high or very high susceptibility to these hazards as identified in hazard maps. Adjacent or nearby areas may also experience flooding in the absence of such rainfall occurrence due to surface runoff or swelling of river channels.
