23-year old PH bet Roxanne Allison Baeyens took home the crown as Miss Earth Water 2020 in today’s live coronation night presented virtually for the first time for all fans around the world to support despite the restrictions brought by the pandemic.
After winning two awards in the pre-pageant awarding ceremonies: the talent competition under dance category and Long Gown Competition for Asia and Oceania, the Cordilleran beauty managed to get into the Top 20 semifinalists, whilst also bagging the Best Eco Video for Asia and Oceania.
The top 8 finalists were judged in three rounds, the swimsuit competition, question and answer question called the Hashtag Earthtalk, and the evening gown competition. Aside from getting into the list of top 8 finalists, Roxanne was also awarded the special award as Jewel Beautystrong Ambassador.
Baeyens was asked about the hashtag #Compassion for the Round 2 Hashtag Earthtalk, where candidates have drawn lots from 100 hashtags about world and environmental issues, wherein she answered:
As human beings, it is our responsibility to have compassion for Mother Earth and prevent detrimental effects to her. By 2050, it is said the humanity could crumble if we do not make sustainable choices now. But we still have a shot. We could protect, promote, and preserve Mother Earth with compassion.
The Igorota beauty paid homage to her highland roots through her evening gown dubbed as the “Highland Maiden” handcrafted by Rian Fernandez. The gown was inspired by the region of Cordillera, cradled with majestic mountains and rice terraces. Baeyens hails from Besao, Mt. Province and she also represented Baguio City in the Miss Philippines Earth 2020 held last July 5, 2020 where she took home the title.
Roxanne Baeyens took home the crown as Miss Earth Water 2020 along with Michala Rubinstein of Denmark as Miss Earth- Fire, Stephany Zreik of Venezuela as Miss Earth-Air and USA Lindsey Coffey crowned as Miss Earth 2020.
