Maymay Weakens Into Tropical Depression; Baguio, Benguet Under Signal No. 1

Maymay has weakened into a tropical depression while traversing Northern Luzon, PAGASA said late Thursday morning, August 6, 2026. Baguio City and Benguet remain under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1, along with several areas in Northern Luzon.

According to PAGASA’s Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 13 issued at 11:00 AM, the center of Tropical Depression Maymay was estimated in the vicinity of Tanudan, Kalinga as of 10:00 AM.

Maymay has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 90 kilometers per hour, and a central pressure of 1000 hectopascals.

It is moving southeastward slowly.

• Nueva Vizcaya

For local reporting purposes, Baguio City is also included in the Baguio-Benguet advisory area. Areas under Signal No. 1 may experience strong winds ranging from 39 to 61 kilometers per hour, with minimal to minor impacts possible.

Habagat and Wind Conditions

PAGASA said the Southwest Monsoon and the outer circulation of Maymay may bring strong to gale-force gusts over most of the country from today until Saturday, August 8.

Local winds may be stronger in coastal, upland, and mountainous areas exposed to winds.

Kakailyan are advised to secure loose outdoor objects, including tarpaulins, signboards, plant pots, roofing materials, and other light items.

Sea Conditions

A Gale Warning remains in effect over the western seaboard of Northern Luzon.

PAGASA said sea travel is risky in areas with very rough seas.

Waves may reach up to:

• 4.5 meters over the northern seaboard of Batanes
• 4.0 meters over the seaboards of Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan

Mariners of small seacrafts and motorbancas are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions.

Track and Intensity Outlook

PAGASA said Maymay will traverse the mountainous terrain of Northern Luzon before emerging over the eastern coastal waters of Isabela or Cagayan.

Maymay is forecast to continue weakening while moving farther inland and may be downgraded into a remnant low this afternoon or evening.

PAGASA said earlier weakening is also possible due to interaction with the rugged terrain.

The remnant low of Maymay is expected to move generally southeastward until it merges into the larger circulation of Tropical Cyclone Dolphin.

The next tropical cyclone bulletin will be issued at 2:00 PM today.
