Driver’s license renewal in Baguio will now be more accessible as the Department of Transportation – Land Transportation Office (DOTr-LTO) opens a new center right at the heart of the city today, June 10, 2019.
Those who are planning to renew their license or apply for student permit can now visit the new office located at the second floor of Porta Vaga Mall, along Session Road, Baguio City. The Porta Vaga annex is open from Monday to Saturday, 9 AM – 5 PM.
According to DOTr Cordillera OIC Robert Allan Santiago, “The DLRO (driver’s license renewal office) was established to ease the queues in Pacdal, which is very inconvenient for those getting their licenses due to the heavy traffic.”
Santiago also said that they’ve thought of establishing the it in compliance to the directive of Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante which is to provide ease to license applicants by making it accessible to them.
Santiago said that they are hoping to expand services of the center so that it can also serve new professional/nonprofessional driver’s license applicants. But for now, only the application for student permit and driver’s license renewal are available at the new center.
However, these services are still being offered at the LTO main office in Pacdal. “It (Pacdal) is still open and caters to the same service. The DLRO was just established to ease the human and vehicular traffic in Pacdal, where all kinds of transactions with the LTO are accepted and done,” Santiago said.
According to Porta Vaga Annex Operations Manager Jenny Bello, the administration of the mall has made an arrangement that will allow the DLRO to open earlier than the mall opening which is 9AM.
Moreover, aside from the very accessible location, the office was able to develop a system where licenses can be released within 30 minutes to an hour; provided however that the internet connection is working well.
“If the internet connection is not working well, the performance of our licensing offices is affected. (Internet connection) is a primary requirement to get a license because we need to upload the data and process the application,” Santiago said.
He also added that LTO does not issue temporary licenses printed on paper anymore. Instead, they give the PVC card. On the contrary, student permits are still to be printed on paper.
